RESOLUTION FÖR ATT BEVARA LÄSÖBIET

På Sicammkonferensen på Läsö gavs en utförlig redogörelse för den prekära situationen för Läsöbiet. Den mer än tio år gamla fredningen har aldrig genomförts och gulbiodlarnas sabotage har fått ske utan ingripande. Nu ligger ett fullständigt ogenomtänkt förslag på Lantbruksdepartementets bord att tillåta två biraser på ön med två parningsplatser. Genomförs detta kan det bli sista spiken i Läsöbiets kista. En resolution som protesterar mot hur fredningen misskötts och mot det nya förslaget antogs på konferensen. Resolutionen är undertecknad av konferensens deltagare.

Resolution from the SICAMM conference on Läsö 11-13 September 2004

Beekeepers and scientists from 11 countries organized by the association SICAMM (Society for the conservation of Apis mellifera mellifera, the original black European bee).

The assembly has learnt that the law from 1993, concerning the conservation of the black bee on Läsö, is not enforced, due to the battle between the local beekeepers. Some beekeepers on the island have broken the law by introducing and maintaining the yellow bee (Apis mellifera ligustica) on Läsö. The Ministry of Agriculture etc. has proposed that the island should become divided so that the black and the yellow bees should have one mating place each on the island. It is scientifically proved that the two races of bees cannot live together

on Läsö without crossing, because the island is too small. The drones and the queens fly across all over the island to mate. The assembly asks the minister of Agciculture etc. that the law should be enforced immediately. From an international point of view, the black bees of Läsö are a singular gene reserve which is important in the breeding of bees in all Europe. We underline, too, that Denmark has signed the papers of the Rio conference 1992, concerning the conservation of the original species and races.
